The Structural Changes in the Processing Industry by Voivodeship in the Years 1999–2010

The aim of this paper is to answer the question of whether the processing industry of Polishregions is able to adapt to changes dictated by the conditions of a knowledge-based economy. Forthat purpose, the selected voivodeship (mazowieckie, dolnośląskie, opolskie and świętokrzyskie) wereexamined in the period 1999-2010 in terms of the structural transformation of the industry. With theusage of the Moore’s Q measure, changes in the structure of the processing industry were identified,as well as the possibility of convergence of industrial structures and the response of these structures toexternal changes were estimated. The study also evaluated the interdependence of the processing industryoutput growth rate and the intensity of changes in the industrial output structure. The Polish foodprocessing industry was characterized by a low intensity in terms of structural changes in the examinedperiod. Sudden breakdowns or unexpected transformations were not recognized. Transformation speedwas directly proportional to the intensity of changes.Downloads
